Nikon Coolpix P90: Lucky for some

Digital Cameras

In these days of economic meltdown and apocalyptic weather, you'd think manufacturers would do their best not to tempt fate when launching new products. But Nikon is flying in the face of superstition by launching the Nikon Coolpix P90 camera next month on... Friday the 13th! Dun dun dunnn!

The P stands for performance, and the 12-megapixel P90 is a seriously specced-out camera. Interestingly it substantially ups the Coolpix P60's 5x optical zoom into superzoom territory with a whopping 24x zoom. It also boasts a 26mm wide-angle lens, equivalent to a 35mm camera.

Nikon claims the P90 will capture up to 45 shots at a blistering 15 frames per second, and also includes a pre-record function and face detection of up to 12 faces. Manual control is included alongside aperture and shutter priority, and full automatic mode.

As well as an electric viewfinder, the Nikon Coolpix P90 sports a 76mm (3-inch) vari-angle LCD screen. It'll set you back £380, and will be available from 13 March 2009. You lucky things.
