Kodak Z980: 24x superzoom Jack Bauer-style
The countdown has begun. CTU has dispatched agents Morris, Reid and Trenholm to Las Vegas, Nevada, from headquarters. That's Crave Technology Undercover, of course, and your gadget-crazed superspies are heading for CES 2009, the world's largest Consumer Electronics Show. We reckon Jack Bauer would approve of the Kodak Z980, a superzoom camera with a 24x optical zoom lens.
This 12-megapixel superzoom boasts a 26mm wide-angle lens. Optical image stabilisation is baked in to keep the shakes at bay. It also boasts a 76mm (3-inch) screen, and shoots high-definition video.
The Z980 gives more than the usual stylistic nod to SLRs. Not only is it SLR-shaped, it also features a hotshoe and, perhaps uniquely, a detachable vertical grip. That means when you turn the camera on its side, it has a comfy grip and a second shutter button to make portrait shooting easy.
Jack and his friends can pick up the Kodak Z980 in spring 2009 for $400 (£275). We're off to torture a Kodak employee for UK details. Hey, the end justifies the means, right Jack?
