Photos: The Kodak EasyShare M1033 stealth brick

Crave may not know much about art, but we know what we like. We do know a thing or two about beauty -- heck, half the Crave team was hired on looks alone. We therefore have a bit of a thing about the Kodak EasyShare M1033 compact camera. And when we say 'a bit of a thing' we mean it in the same way that Romeo had 'a crush' on Juliet, Scarlett O'Hara 'quite fancied' Rhett Butler, and Godzilla had 'a bit of a thing' for standing on Tokyo.

We think this 10.1-megapixel point-and-shoot is gorgeous, the way a stealth bomber is deadly. It's a slick black brick that looks so mean we hesitate to turn our back on it, in case it steals our wallet. It's that much of a badass.

The M1033 boasts the usual 3x optical zoom, with a 35mm equivalent focal length of 35–105mm at an aperture of f/3.1–5.7. Single or continuous autofocus give you the option of selecting focus with a squeeze of the shutter button, or constantly tracking focus. You can also switch over to macro mode, or fix focus to infinity -- and beyond, maybe.

It hasn't escaped camera manfacturers' notice that high definition is the buzzword that all the kids are talking about -- not that we'd ever descend from Crave Towers to mingle with the kids with their crunking and cranking and so forth. Anyway, the M1033 shoots 720p video at 30 frames per second, which is nice. Lower-resolution VGA allows for the use of the zoom, which is also nice, although it should be used sparingly.
