Samsung S760 and S860: Ain't no party like an S Club Party

Digital Cameras

Crave has long been aware that the S section of any decent music collection is by far the best. The Sex Pistols, Super Furry Animals, Silver Sun, Supergrass, Status Quo; the list goes on. Samsung has obviously reached the same conclusion with two new compact cameras announced this week, both of which are brought to you by the letter S: the S760 and S860.

The 7-megapixel S760 will be available in a choice of black, silver, pink or blue colours from January 2008 for a wallet-friendly £79.99. The 8-megapixel S860 will be available in the same flavours, and although price has yet to be confirmed, we reckon it'll cost less than seeing Sting at Wembley.

Both new entries to the S series boast image processing and intelligent face-recognition technology -- as opposed to really stupid face detection, we suppose. This starts with the autofocus spotting a face and focusing on it, at which point the autoexposure kicks in to select the appropriate exposure. They also include 3x optical zoom, a 61mm (2.4-inch) LCD screen and 11 scene modes. No optical image stabilisation, but what do you expect for that price? A Sigue Sigue Sputnik reunion tour?

Right, we're off to alphabetise our CDs, and argue about which is our favourite Sugababe. -Rich Trenholm
