Zink: Bake it like a Polaroid picture

If download limits and paper passports make you fret that the 21st century was supposed to be the future and yet silver jumpsuits still aren't in fashion, this one's for you. Zink has invented a camera that prints out full-colour pictures from within its tiny frame, without ink. Now that's some proper futuristic gubbins, right there (although sadly it doesn't actually fly, like in our image).

Zink means zero ink, as the Zink Integrated Digital Camera and Printer bakes embedded dye crystals on to Zink paper. It's a 7-megapixel compact with a 3x zoom, scene modes and a slightly sub-par 50mm (2 inch) screen -- yep, another one -- but Logan's Run! This one prints borderless 50mm by 76mm (2- by 3-inch) colour photos! Your snaps can also be stored on SD cards and shared the old-fashioned way (email, online storage -- the creaky old classics). It can be yours for only $199 (£100).

But hang on, let's not get carried away just yet. Those pictures are slightly on the small side, and we don't know what the quality is like. You will, however, be able to get sticky-back paper for making little stickers, and Zink paper will be a snip at $19.99 (£10.14) for 100 sheets. Other Zink accessories are on the way, such as a mini-printer you can pair up to your current camera or phone by Bluetooth.
