Sony Vaio J series: 21-inch hi-def all in one PC range kicks off with J11M1E/B

Tired of having a separate monitor and PC cluttering up your workspace? Could be you need an all in one PC, like the new Sony Vaio J11M1E/B, the first in the new Vaio J series of 21-inch high-definition monoputers.

The J range displays full hi-def video at 1080p resolution. They sport a 21.5-inch Vaio Display Plus touchscreen, throbbing with Windows 7 Home Premium multitouch for poking, swiping and pinching on the screen.

Sony has thrown in some free touchy software, including YouPaint, which lets you fingerpaint right on the screen, and Vaio Gate, which sounds more scandalous than a media-management and application-launching bar probably should.

Inside the J11M1E/B's one-piece frame is an Intel Core i3-350M 2.26GHz processor with 4GB of memory and an Nvidia GeForce 310M graphics card. Your stuff is stored in 500GB of hard disk space.

The J connects to the Web via 802.11b, g or n Wi-Fi, with Bluetooth for accessories. It also includes a webcam and a DVD rewriter. The first J machine arrives in July, but we're yet to hear about price -- in the States, the J series commands a premium at about $900 (£625), but how that translates over here remains to be seen. The Advent MT22, an all in one we recently reviewed, goes for less than £600 and offers more features, although none of the bespoke software.
