Big White is at it again -- while other companies would be content with updating the world's most popular MP3 player last week, Apple just can't stop inventing. Today it's launched a new range of Power Macintosh G5s and PowerBooks. Dismissing what was cutting edge technology only yesterday (dual-core processors), Apple has gone straight to quad cores for their new G5. Vindictive pundits note that while Windows machines are still unable to utilise dual-core processors, OS X uses these quad processors right out of the box.
It's not just new desktops and laptops Apple have introduced overnight -- there's also a new bit of groundbreaking software the company has nonchalantly tossed into the ring. This is called Aperture and, as any photographer worth their flash bulb will have guessed, it's a tool for storing and manipulating RAW digital camera files.
Although Photoshop has had RAW file support for a while now, this has always had the feel of an add-on, rather than an integral part of the program. Aperture is unique in that it maintains the RAW format throughout the editing process. We've taken a look at the demonstration movies on Apple's site, and suffice to say it ripped our heads off and spat happiness down our throats.
