Exposed: New Asus Eee TV, desktop PC and monitor

Asus spun the laptop world on its head late last year with its Eee PC, and is set to do the same to the TV and desktop PC markets. How? With a new Eee DT desktop, Eee TV television and Eee Monitor, that's how. We don't have any pics yet, so we thought we'd use the one on the right for illustrative purposes.

Asus' loose-lipped CEO announced all three products yesterday, confirming the vague rumours we heard back in 2007. The Eee TV is said to have a 42-inch LCD panel and an integrated Linux PC that lets you surf the Internet and send emails. Speculation is that it'll retail for a tiny bit more than you'd pay for an ordinary 42-incher and that it'll go on sale at the end of Q4 2008. Don't expect it to reach the UK though -- Asus is yet to sell TVs anywhere outside of Asia.

The Eee DT desktop is said to be based on Intel hardware and Linux software, just like the Eee PC. Details on this are few and far between, but logic suggests it'll look like the Asus Nova small form-factor PC and retail for less than a Pot Noodle. Asus says it should surface towards the end of Q3 2008.

The Eee Monitor is expected to be an all-in-one PC in the same vein as the Apple iMac or Dell XPS One. It should go on sale around the same time as the Eee TV, but the official launch date is unconfirmed.

This is great news, we think you'll agree. If Asus can keep the prices as low as it has with the Eee PC, rival manufacturers will really need to step their game up to compete. We'll bring you more info as we get it. -Rory Reid
