An Apple board member has revealed how Steve Jobs had dreamed of creating an iCar, CNET reports.
Speaking at a Fast Company conference, the excellently named Mickey Drexler said, "Look at the car industry; it's a tragedy in America. Who's designing the cars?"
Drexler goes on to say, "Steve's dream before he died was to design an iCar."
A fascinating insight, but don't start saving your coins just yet. Drexler -- who is also CEO of fashion brand J. Crew -- says Jobs "never did design it". Nevertheless, he reckons the fantasy vehicle "would've probably been 50 per cent of the market".
Drexler also appears to confirm Apple's rumoured plot to create a television, mentioning seemingly offhand, "The living room they're dealing with in the near future."
The video published by Fast Company also includes a wry aside from Drexler about taking over companies. The man who says he took over J. Crew when it was literally bankrupt says, "Never take over a company that's doing great.
"I love Tim Cook, but I wouldn't want his job."
Drexler makes a good point -- with visionary co-founder Jobs sadly no longer around, the pressure on Cook to keep Apple trendy and profitable is huge.
So what would an Apple-built car look like? Unibody aluminium presumably, with a touchscreen panel instead of a steering wheel. As long as sat-nav isn't controlled by Siri, I'm ready to invest.
What would you want to see from an Apple-inspired automobile? And are there any other objects you'd be keen to see get a Cupertino makeover? Stick your thoughts in the comments, or on our Facebook wall.

I dread to think how much the iFuel station would charge!

I'd love to see what happened if you tried to modify the engine.

Imagine a car accident : "you were driving it wrong"

50% of the market for MP3 players would be an easy task compared to 50% in the car industry. The majority of people can't afford a good car and I would imagine an iCar to cost well above £30,000 on a basic model. If they figured out a way to make a £7000 car that was revolutionary then perhaps it would be the case. But this is apple we are talking about, over priced though aesthetically pleasing gear. Respect is deserved for Steve Jobs for attempting to change the world, but without him I think Tim Cook has enough on his plate than worrying about Cars!

An aluminium car would redefine the term 'crumple zone'.

@Nick Hide - no it wouldn't. Jaguar XJ8 springs to mind and there are many others.

As the old saying goes, 'if the computer industry made cars, they'd just crash every now and again but you'd just accept that, and restart - and Apple would make better cars, but they'd only work on 5% of the roads' (and I forget the rest, there were ten points originally I think).

An i car would be awesome haha! Also something id be interested in seeing, how can a car be made revolutionary? Or would Apple have just developed a mew clean renewable fuel source for their cars?
'But this is apple we are talking about, over priced though aesthetically pleasing gear.'
I really wish people would stop saying this - completely 100% unfounded information there. Telle how are their products over priced? Or are you just comparing an Apple product to the cheapest alternative you can find? Most 'ultrabools' are the same price as an Air if not more and only just compare with specs and performance, desktops are expensive from Apple but only for one reason: they dont make entry level under powered rubbish like most other companies. Campare a similar spec desktop that can keep up with an iMac (not forgetting you need to also buy an equivilant screen for the windows desktop and find thinderbolt from somewhere) and ill bet the price is about the same - what £300 for a base cheap desktop, add in a quality LED high res display and youd be looking closer to £600. Then run a benchmark and watch the Apple scream ahead of the comparison machine - i remember watchin this happen on stage at a WWDC Apple G5 (when first released) vs the closest Dell they could buy from Dell, Dell specs were lower, it took 20 more mins to complete the render and was about $300 more than the G5. Come back when you can prove that Apple over price, instead of them just not making entry level devices

a car made by apple ? but it wont have windows ... think about it
