Range Rover Evoque mini 4x4 evokes maternal instinct in video

Ever wondered what would happen if you put your Range Rover in the hot wash by mistake? The end result would probably look a lot like the Range Rover Evoque -- a diddy version of the full-fat Range Rover aimed at a urban, rap-listening 30-somethings.

If the Evoque seems familiar, that's because it's based on the awesome-looking Range Rover LRX concept shown off towards the back end last year. The overall look isn't as chunky and utilitarian, but we're huge fans of the narrow headlights, purposeful chin and the way the roofline slopes towards the rear, making the vehicle look as if it's moving even while stationary.

It may be small, but the Evoque has much of the same tech used in the standard Range Rover. It has the same 8-inch dual-view display, which allows the driver to look at the sat-nav and vehicle menus while the passenger simultaneously watches TV or DVD movies, or messes about with the stereo. Speaking of speakers, the Evoque will come with a choice of audio solutions from high-end supplier Meridien. One is an entry-level 380W 13-speaker arrangement, the other a more upscale 825W 17-speaker rig. Both feature Dolby Pro Logic IIx and DTS Neo:6 and play from a range of sources including your iPod, an integrated hard drive, USB, FM radio, CD and DVD.

The Evoque will also feature gadgets that make life simpler for the driver. It'll come with a Surround Camera System, which consists of five digital cameras mounted in various locations around the vehicle, giving the driver a 360-degree bird's-eye view of the Evoque's surrounds.

The Evoque also gets Park Assist, which automatically parallel parks the car when you can't be bothered. An adjustable timer turns on the heating or air conditioning to comfortable temperatures before you get in the car, and screens in the rear keep the kids quiet on long journeys.
