This one is up against other family cars like the Renault Laguna. Volvo says the DRIVe S40 will do 62.8mpg and 118g/km, which is mighty impressive -- the Laguna knocks out 130g/km.

Along with the rest of the DRIVe cars, the greened-up S40 will cost around £120-360 more than the normal S40.
