Ford Focus Econetic
This is one of the few green cars at the show that you can actually buy today. It's a diesel version of the UK's best-selling car, and it's had its tyres, aerodynamics and oil tweaked to reduce friction and make it lower carbon. The result is a family-sized car that does 115g CO2 per kilometre, not far off the much smaller VW Bluemotion Polo on 99g.
I've been borrowing an Econetic for SmartPlanet and drove the 300ish miles from London to Cornwall in it. First impressions are good, but make no mistake: it's a diesel. It's noisy, doesn't like hills, does like motorways and is very comfy inside.
