DC Avanti is India's first supercar

India's automotive industry has been making some interesting power moves of late. It's already delivered the world's cheapest car, the Tata Nano, given the world a fantastic new Formula 1 circuit in Delhi and now it's busted out its its very first supercar.

The DC Avanti, pictured above, was created by the car modification gurus at DC Design -- a firm that specialises in modifying existing vehicles and prototypes for the likes of Renault, Aston Martin and GM.

Unveiled at the AutoExpo in Delhi, the DC Avanti is quite a looker, although we're not yet sure we mean that in a positive or negative sense. Its makers appear to have, shall we say, 'borrowed' bits from a host of other supercars and flung them together in a package that isn't particularly beautiful, though it isn't fully hideous, either.

Inspiration for the front end seems to have been drawn from the Ferrari 458 Italia and Audi R8, thanks to some very angular headlamps and a short bonnet overhang, while there are more than a few hints of Lotus, Lamborghini and even Bugatti at the rear.

Sadly, the DC Avanti won't be able to match the performance of its idols -- at least not initially. It'll be powered by a relatively small, but turbocharged, Ford EcoBoost 2-litre, four-cylinder engine that some speculate will produce in the region of 260hp. If that's the case, we expect it'll deliver performance in line with a reasonably fast hot hatch.

A faster, more powerful version with a 400+hp V6 engine is expected later.

The DC Avanti is set to be relatively affordable when it's released in 2013, with prices starting at around £36,000.

Fix the bonnet and do something a little more imaginative with the roof and you have a nice looking car.
