Photos: British Steam Car warming up for world-record attempt Image 1
Car Tech

The British Steam Car looks like the love child of the Batmobile and an F-15 fighter jet. The goal for this sleek, modern-day automotive design is to break the 127mph land speed record for a steam-powered car, set by a Stanley Steamer in 1906. The group behind the British Steam Car aims to get to 170mph.

The vehicle, which is powered  by super-heated steam, last week passed a milestone, exceeding 80mph on a test track in the UK. Next month, it will be shipped to the US. The goal is to make the record attempt in a dry lake bed at Edwards Air Force Base in California, depending on the weather.
