Photos: Porsche Panamera Gran Turismo is a hybrid!
Remember a few weeks ago when Lamborghini unveiled its fabulous Estoque 4-door supercar concept? Well Porsche has one, too, and it's called the Panamera Gran Turismo. Honestly, the car makers of this world must have bumped their collective heads and gone crazy.
Don't get us wrong, we're used to seeing bizarre contraptions, but the Panamera Gran Turismo takes the biscuit, not least because it'll come in hybrid form. Porsche will give buyers the option of six and eight cylinder engines ranging in power from 300 to 500 bhp, but will also produce an eco-friendly part-electric model, details of which will be announced in 2009.
If Porsche can pull this off, it could make the Panamera Gran Turismo very attractive to petrolheads with 2.4 children. The luggage compartment, which lives at the front of the car "easily takes every passenger's baggage", and the individual bucket seats at the rear are perfectly contoured to give passengers a feeling of involvement with the driving experience.
As crazy as it sounds, we really like it. It's not as mental as the Estoque, but it just about combines the looks of its smaller, faster 911 cousins, with the practicality of the larger Cayenne series. The Panamera will make its world debut in spring 2009, with the first models arriving in Porsche Centres worldwide from late summer 2009.
