Review: Smart fortwo cdi diesel

First impressions
This diesel Smart is a noisy beast. I know, I've mentioned that already, but I'm repeating it for emphasis. Sit in the driver's seat with your eyes closed and the engine running, and you could easily imagine yourself in a big white van. The noise levels aren't bad enough to make it a chore to drive, but they are much higher than the standard petrol fortwos and -- obviously -- the near-silent electric one.

The exterior design of the car is nigh-on identical to previous UK petrol models.
