Stumbling past the JVC stand here at CES, we stopped for a quick fumble with the JVC Picsio high-definition mini-camcorder. It shoots 1080p, 720p, VGA and QVGA and records in fancy stereo sound.
The Picsio competes with the Flip Video, Kodak Zi8 and Sony Bloggie. It's smaller than most of its rivals, but feels more plasticky than the Kodak and Sony offerings.
Films are recorded in .MOV format to SD and SDHC card. The Picsio boasts an HDMI connection and also captures JPEG stills.
The JVC Picsio is available in black, blue, and pinky-purple. The back sports a shiny pattern, which we found strangely hypnotic. We could have stared at it for ages, but that's probably because the cough medicine just kicked in and now we have the mental capacity of a doorknob. The Picsio is available now for around £150.

Just purchased the picsio from Novatech online for a steal at £69 quid with free P+P,Very compact and light with great picture(Stills also as it's got an 8mp function) quality for a budget mini camcorder. There's no fancy settings it's just point and shoot and away you go.
The only thing I would advise on if you were going to buy one is that it's fussy with what SDHC cards it takes,I purchased a Kingston 8gb Class 4 SDHC card and it wouldn't work in it(Thankfully I gave it to my son to use in his camera so)Ended up purchasing a Sandisk 4gb class 6 SDHC HD Video mem card which works fine(I paid £10.95 inc P+P from amazon as most high street retailers wanted around £20-25 for it,They also do an 8gb one for £17.95).
The instructions do actually state that 'Operations are confirmed with the following memory cards-Panasonic,Toshiba,Sandisk,ATP' .
To be on the safe side go for a minimum class 6 of the above brands.
The software is easy to install use and the vids can be easily uploaded to youtube if that's your thing.
If you want an alternative to the flip HD then this is a great alternative if you shop around online and get it for a bargain price as I did.

Just bought a JVC GC-FM1 on amazon for my daughter for Christmas, and looking at the specs on the box it appears it won't work with Windows 7, which is what she has on her netbook. Oops! Does anyone know if it will actually work with Windows 7 (starter edition), or do I have to change it? Any help gratefully received!
