Canon Legria HF S10 and Legria HF S100: HD flash joy

CES 2009

Buenos dias, señoras y señores! Canon has weighed in pre-CES with a batch of new camcorders, and leading the way are the HF S10 and Legria HF S100. According to Crave phoneadore Andrew Lim, 'alegria' means 'joy', so we can only assume that Legria means 'high-definition, flash-memory joy'. ¿Qué?

Both camcorders pack an impressive 8-megapixel CMOS sensor, with a DIGIC DV III processor taking care of business under the bonnet. They each sport a 10x optical zoom, which benefits from optical image stabilisation. Features include face detection for up to 35 faces, and a pre-record function.

Stills can be captured during playback, at a creditable 6-megapixel resolution. Both cameras record to removable SD and SDHC cards, with the hybrid HF S10 also including onboard memory.

The dual memory Legria HF S10 packs 32GB of internal flash memory, or allows you to add an SD or SDHC memory card. The Legria HF S100 records to SD and SDHC memory cards. Adiós, amigos!
