Toshiba Camileo H10: HD that isn't hard on your wallet
High definition is just getting more and more affordable. Toshiba has announced the latest in its wallet-friendly Camileo camcorder line with the Camileo H10. It shoots 1,280x720p video to SD and SDHC cards.
The H10 goes for the can-of-pop profile rather than the pistol-grip shape of previous entries in the Camileo range. It weighs a lightweight 340g, and features a flip-out 69mm (2.7-inch) TFT LCD screen. You also get HDMI output for viewing the hi-def goodness on your HDTV.
It boasts a single CCD and includes a 5x optical and 4x digital zoom. Video is encoded in H.264/MPEG-4 format, and although there's a meagre 64MB of onboard memory, the H10 supports SDHC cards, up to a maximum of 8GB. Toshiba claims this will give you up to 4 hours of broadcast-quality film.
Other features include motion detection, should you wish to see who's been stealing your Hobnobs. A special-effects feature adds different colour settings such as black and white, classic and negative mode.
The Toshiba Camileo H10 drops at the end of this month, with a price estimated to be in the pocketable region of £180. -Rich Trenholm
