Round-up: camcorders at CES

Our CNET.com colleagues are also attending CES in force, gathering up new products and harvesting all the latest trends. Here's the pick of their camcorder crop.

So far the most innovative product looks to be Sanyo's Xacti HD1 camcorder. Lori Grunin says it "melds several of the hottest trends in video today in its Xacti HD1 camcorder: HD video, flash-media recording, and an OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display".

Panasonic has released three new 3CCD MiniDV camcorders, the NV-GS500, NV-GS300 and NV-GS180. Aimee Baldridge predicts the low-light capability of the relatively large 1/4.7-inch sensors in the PV-GS500 should enable it to compete with similarly priced single-chip camcorders.

Sony's Handycam DCR-SR100 camcorder is the first model in its new SR series of hard-drive-based camcorders. Lori Grunin thinks it looks like a Thermos, but is more stylish than JVC's Everio GZ-MG20 (reviewed here).

Sony also has a platter of DVD camcorders. Grunin reports that the top-end Handycam DCR-DVD505 improves on the DVD403 (reviewed here), but is less impressed by the DVD205 and DVD105.
