Crave TV: Creative Xdock HD hands-on

You may be familiar with Creative's new Xdock HD if you've been keeping your eye on our CES 2008 coverage. It's an iPod docking system that upscales your tiny 'Pod vids up to hi-def 1080i resolution, alongside converting the audio stream to DTS 5.1 surround-sound.

We weren't content with just telling you about it, so we hunted down one of our friends at the Creative stand to talk us through what all the fuss is about.

It's true that in order to fully appreciate how impressive it is to see those poxy iPod videos blown up for viewing on a 60-inch HDTV, you need to see it in the flesh. But if you're not able to get yourself to CES, you should be fairly satisfied with seeing the system in action via the Intertubes.

Less impressively, though still interesting nonetheless, is the Xdock HD's wireless transmission feature, which lets you beam the audio from whatever you're upscaling to a hi-fi-connected receiver elsewhere in your house. We take a look at this, too.

Anyway, all this talk isn't getting us anywhere. Give our video some eyeball time and check out our previous coverage for some more technical info. -Nate Lanxon
