Buffalo LinkStation Live: Hefty NAS streamer

Buffalo just sent us its brand new LinkStation Live, a network-attached storage device with media-streaming capabilities. In layman's terms, it's a little box with a hard-drive that lets you hoard multimedia files and play them via an Internet-connected PC.

It comes in 250GB, 320GB, 500GB and 750GB versions, all of which work with the Mediabolic Media Server software. It even integrates with iTunes so you can access your song collection through a familiar interface.

It's basically a cross between the LinkStation Home Server and the LinkStation Pro. You get a built-in FTP server, Memeo auto-backup software, Gigabit Ethernet (for fast file transfers), and a print server so all your networked PCs can share one printer.

We fumbled around with it this morning, and we're pretty impressed. The basic configuration is easy, it works well, and best of all it's actually a tiny bit cheaper than a LinkStation Pro -- around £220 for the 500GB.

Watch out for a full review soon. -RR
