SoundClip: Enhances iPhone 3G's audio

The iPhone 3G's speaker works relatively well but, at the highest volume, the sound is often distorted and insufficiently loud.

The SoundClip, introduced in the US this week by Ten One Design, aims to solve that problem. Yes, it's a piece of black plastic, but it amplifies the iPhone 3G's external audio by 10dB between 5kH and 20kH.

The device clips securely into the 30-pin dock connector, guiding the sound from the iPhone 3G's speaker directly towards the user.

During gaming, it also prevents the iPhone 3G's speaker from being blocked by your hand. The only inconvenience is that you need to detach it to charge or sync the phone, and it can't be used with any of the iPhone 3G's extended batteries. Also, it is intended for use with the iPhone 3G only.

In the US, the SoundClip costs around $8 (£6). UK pricing and availability have yet to be announced.
