Yahoo Internet Calling: Early morning frustrations

Accessories

We are cursed. First of all, every single Media Center we get in either fails or has a major problem. Then, it takes us about an hour to link our work computer up to a massive 32-inch Sharp LCD. Finally, after trying and failing to use a new Plantronics headset to try out Yahoo Internet Calling, we're resigned to the idea that Computer + Drop From a Fifth Floor Window = Very Satisfying Mess.

The idea behind the new beta version of Yahoo Messenger is that you talk to your friends across the internet, just like Skype. "Completely Integrated Communications Experience", boasts the press release. "About as integrated as North and South Korea," replies Crave. We were informed by Yahoo's Messenger Beta that there was either a problem with our firewall, or that they were busy sorting out the chat service. So, just to be sure which one it was, we went online and used both MSN Messenger and Skype to use audio over the Internet. And guess what? Both worked seamlessly.

The new Yahoo Messenger felt more 'Alpha' than 'Beta' to us, but we'll keep trying… -GC
